Teaching Eye Contact

If you’ve ever wondered why your pet won’t do as you ask or come when they’re called, have you looked to see if they are actually looking at you?  In our experience, if your dog is not looking at you he/she may not be listening.

  1. Sit in a comfortable position
  2. Put one of your dog’s favourite treats in the palm of your hand
  3. Hold your hand out to one side
  4. Allow your dog to sniff, lick, nose, paw, nuzzle your hand
  5. As soon as your dog looks at you, say GOOD and give the treat out of your hand

Repeat this 10 - 20 times twice daily, gradually increasing the time you maintain eye contact up to 5 seconds.
